Our Eggs are from Real Free-Range Chickens

We raise our hens on pasture and orchard land. They run around eating and exercising all day and they live in the real world of the great outdoors. They are trained to coop at night, lay their eggs in the morning, and then are freed to roam about our orchards the rest of the day. This way of farming is more difficult and lowers egg production, but it also significantly increases the flavor and nutrition of the egg. Our chickens eat grass, flowers, and insects, as well as macadamia nut leftovers from our nut processing. We only supplement this diet with grain and other nutrients necessary for a healthy chicken. Because of this life style and diet our chickens lay superior eggs.

There are no eggs produced commercially in this fashion in the U.S. sold in any store, even "natural" supermarkets. Commercial "free-range" advertised eggs exploit the consumer's actual idea of what constitutes free-range. If you believe you are buying free-range eggs from free roaming chickens, just ask. Call the egg farm and ask to visit the free-ranging hens. You are likely to find thousands of "free-ranging" hens in a barn or chicken yard, fed a commercial laying ration and walking around in their own poop. Do the research. Factory-farming is disgusting and horribly cruel to the birds. Eggs labeled "Cage Free" or "Free Range" usually mean that the birds are not confined to 'battery cages', not necessarily that the hens are allowed a more natural existence. Neither label guarantees that they have adequate space to move around, or that they are even allowed outdoors to roam about and forage or dust bathe. Organic labeled eggs also do not guarantee the chickens ever see the outdoors.

Our chickens live an idyllic life, as chickens go. They free-range on large orchard and pasture land. They are not confined 24 hours a day in a barn or chicken yard. Research has shown that truly free-range eggs have higher omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamins A and E, folic acid, and beta carotene than commercially produced eggs, and half the cholesterol. The nutritional value of our eggs is an exceptional bargain. We collect the eggs daily, and sell out weekly. These eggs are fresh! Simply put, our eggs taste better and are healthier for you. We also never use oil coatings or detergent baths on our eggs.

Our eggs are available locally at the Keauhou Farmers Market every Saturday from 8:00 am to 12 noon.
